This Cookie Policy explains how Island Homes uses cookies and similar technologies on Island Homes. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites function, remember preferences, or understand usage.
2. Our approach
We minimise non-essential tracking. The public site uses self-hosted fonts and does not load fonts from third-party CDNs. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies on the public site.
When you submit certain forms (for example register, log in, contact us, send an enquiry, or book a viewing), we load Cloudflare Turnstile to help block bots and abuse. Turnstile may process your IP address, browser user agent, and similar technical signals. It is used only for security verification, not for advertising or cross-site tracking. No consent is required because this processing is strictly necessary to protect the Service.
3. Cookies we use
Strictly necessary session cookie
- Name: island-homes-session
- Purpose: Maintains your login session, CSRF protection, and temporary application state.
- Duration: Up to 120 minutes of inactivity, or until you log out.
- Lawful basis: Strictly necessary for the Service you request; no consent required.
Remember-me cookie (optional)
If you choose "remember me" when logging in, Laravel may set a long-lived encrypted cookie to keep you signed in. This is optional and only set with your action.
Security verification (Cloudflare Turnstile)
- Provider: Cloudflare Turnstile
- Purpose: Bot and abuse detection on public forms such as registration, login, property enquiries, and viewing bookings.
- When loaded: Only when you open or submit a protected form, not for general browsing.
- Lawful basis: Strictly necessary security; no marketing consent required.
4. Map tiles (not cookies)
Map tiles are loaded from a third-party CDN when you use map features. No cookies are set by the tile provider; your IP address is processed to deliver map images.
These requests are not cookies. We load map tiles only when you use map features (for example opening the map view or scrolling to a property location map).
5. Local storage
We may store minimal UI preferences in your browser local storage (for example appearance settings). This data stays on your device and is not used for tracking.
6. Email preferences
Marketing-style property alerts are controlled by your account notification settings, not by browser cookies. Logged-in users can manage these in Settings → Notifications.
7. How to control cookies
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent you from logging in or using account features.
8. Changes
We may update this policy when our use of cookies changes. Check the version date at the top of this page.
